If you went to Berlin at the age of 22, you probably wouldn't expect to be making wine after a couple of years.
But, Alanna Lagamba (a fellow Canadian) fell in love with wine, and after working in restaurants for a while decided to learn more about the wine world. Then she met Martin Woerner (who we're also proud to represent, and of course of Marto fame) and asked him to work at his winery. after working harvest and in the cellar, she essentially never left again. Soon she wanted to make her own wine and now farms grapes on the land that was neglected by Martin aoc (they’re neglected no more!). Since then, she's been making some pretty phenomenal wines with minimal intervention and maximum drinkability.
As with all of our producers, we will be donating part of the proceeds from sales to a non-profit close to our heart. for Vin de la Gamba wines, we have chosen to donate to the Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters. please check them out.
Frauen Power 2021
Dornfelder
9% abv
tasting notes It’s essentially a fruity, light red with a rounded mouthfeel, yet minimal tannins. Notes of blackcurrant, grape, cola, fizzy sweets and lime. Keep it cold and take it to the park.
vinification method: This is in essence a German-style Lambrusco.
1/3 direkt press dornfelder, 2/3 whole bunch for 1 week. Fermented in barrel, and then bottled with 8-10 grams of sugar from the last grapes from the last harvest, usually Glera. Undisgorged. Unfined, unfiltered, with no sulfur added.
HOT TIP: Even in the third vintage, there's quite some Frauenpower in this bottle that wants to come out. Chill properly and open slowly and/or in a sink, keep a glass close and enjoy!

Inspired, by an Italian Rose Lambrusco Martin and Alanna tasted in 2020. Martin gave it to Alanna as a "blind" and, per Alanna “I couldn't for the life of me figure out where it came from, it had the acidity of a German wine but no one I knew in Germany would have made something like that. Low and behold it was Italian, and we vowed to recreate the wine but Rheinhessen style. What resulted was something in which tastes NOTHING like the inspiration behind it but we love it nonetheless”.
tasting notes: A very easy-drinking lightly sparkling rose pet nat. Delicious bubbles; hops, watermelon, cream soda, herbs, vanilla ice cream kinda vibe… A bottle won’t last long.
vinification method: Fermented in barrel, and then bottled with 8-10 grams of sugar from the last grapes from the last harvest, usually Glera. “We had an idea about what we wanted to create before harvest but it was only during harvest that the blend came about, the idea is that the Riesling (young vines, first harvest from them), added the acidity, the dornfelder added the colour, the Siegerrebe (2 week maceration) added the floral fruitiness, and the Johanniter added the hoppy tannins”.
Undisgorged. Unfined, unfiltered, with no sulfur added.
Fun fact: Martin's dad planted Prosecco grapes aka Glera in the early 2000's as inspired by Paris Hilton's canned Prosecco. However, he couldn't legally call it Prosecco in Germany.
With all 3 petnats, what we really wanted to do was break the traditional mould of how wine should be, and especially sparkling wine, and create some beautiful, fun, approachable and yet equally delicious product
