Señorío de Librares is a small family winery from La Rioja, Spain. They are the third generation sister-owned winery and plan to not only follow the traditions of their grandfather but to evolve and add our own personality to the brand. Their family has been dedicated to wine for more than 100 years. This dedication goes back to the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1878, where their great-grandfather, Pedro Maria Espinosa, won the Gold Medal.
Sustainability is their guiding principle, reflected in every aspect of their winemaking. They’re committed to ethical choices, from grape cultivation to land stewardship, as a way to give back to our planet. Our grapes, sourced from our own vineyards and our grandparents’ heritage, are organic, and sustainably grown, reducing our environmental impact. Excluding the use of artificial chemical fertilizers and pesticides. They cultivate native grapes from La Rioja : Tempranillo, Graciano, Garnacha and Mazuelo for the production of our red and rose and Viura for the whites.
The name “Librares” has a beautiful connection to the horoscope and the connection to the land. It combines “LIBRA,” representing the months of September and October when we harvest grapes in Rioja, with “ARIES,” which symbolizes March and April when their young wines are ready to be enjoyed. This name symbolizes a story of their wines’ “journey”, much like how the stars influence our lives and the growth of their grapes and the evolution of their wines. Librares captures the magic of the natural world, creating a connection between our wines and the earth.
As with all our producers, we will be donating part of the proceeds from sales to a non-profit close to our heart. For Señorío de Librares, we have chosen to donate to the Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters. Please check them out.

Winemaking:
Grapes come from vineyards that are located in the coldest and highest areas, with a cold and sheltered north orientation, approximately 600 meters altitude. After an early harvest to ensure the acidity and freshness of our wines, we perform a skin maceration at low temperature, approximately 24 hours in contact with the skins. Subsequently, they bleed the must and alcoholic fermentation begins under a controlled temperature of 15-17°C for approximately 15 days. Unfined, nominal paper filtration, under 40 ppm SO2.
